Protect our water from golden mussels. It’s as easy as:

Clean

vessels and gear inside and out right after leaving the water.

Drain

bilge, ballast, wells, and buckets before you leave the area.

Dry

equipment completely before launching into another body of water.

What’s the Big Deal?

Golden mussels are an invasive species that can spread by hitching rides on boats and other personal watercraft.

Once in a waterway, they harm local environments, damage infrastructure, and are expensive and difficult to remove.

Kern County has declared a State of Emergency, and we need your help to protect our water.

Don’t Move a Mussel!

If you do see a mussel in one of our Kern County waterways:

Don’t move any water, equipment, or boats from the area.
Take a photo and note the exact location.
Notify the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
